Review: Rose Petal Chai Shanti Chai & Co
First, I want to say thank you to Shanti Chai & Co for sending me their newest special chai blends! This is the first of three, their Rose Petal Chai.
I can’t believe it’s the end of 2021 already. So much has happened this year, and it really flew by!! From my first collaboration and selling my own curated box to having more readers than ever before on I Try Chai, it’s been eventful. Much more to come next year!
If you’ve never heard of Shanti Chau & Co before, they’re based in Ladysmith, on BC’s Vancouver Island and founded in 2017. Using organic ingredients, they aim for a balanced, truly authentic, indulgent and delicious chai experience.
Check out the reel I posted over on my instagram @itrychai of this beautiful chai!
I’ve tried their classic masala chai before, and loved it. You can read the review here if you haven’t already.
As you can see, this chai is gorgeous. I love floral teas, so I’m super excited to try this one out!
This chai has Assam tea as the base, and includes cinnamon, cacao, red rose petals, cardamom pods, and cardamom seeds.
(I’ve never had a chai with cacao in it)
This is a chai for tea lovers. Since it doesn’t contain much spice, it’s more of a relaxed floral chai. In contrast to their classic chai, where the spices and tea are packaged separately, this is all mixed together. Since it is more of a “tea”-like take on a chai this makes sense, since the only spices are the cardamom and cinnamon.
I recommend drinking this hot so ice doesn’t water it down. The addition of cacao makes it a rich indulgent experience, while not being overwhelming.
It also smells amazing as it steeps. I like maximum flavor, so I let it steep a few minutes longer than directed, and measured using generous teaspoons.
I didn’t get a huge caffeine buzz from this chai, I would describe it as a tame experience, definitely for tea lovers wanting a rich introduction to chai. You have the cardamom and cinnamon in there, 2 main components of every good chai, without it being overwhelmingly spicy.
If you are looking for a good alternative milk to go with this blend, I strongly recommend a full fat oat milk, or a creamy option if possible. The subtle flavor of oat milk really enhances the cacao. Again, with a thicker type of milk you will need to steep for a bit longer to make sure the flavors come through.
I start on the lighter side when it comes to adding sugar or sweetener, because I don’t want to drown out the light and delicate flavor of the rose petals. I suggest starting on the lighter side and then adding more sugar to taste once it’s strained and in your mug.
I look forward to trying Shanti Chai’s other 2 blends they sent me, so keep an eye out on the blog for reviews on those coming up.
