Why Caffeine-Free Chai Is the Best Tea for Your Nighttime Routine
Thank you to Teabloom for gifting me this chai blend!
There’s something undeniably comforting about ending the day with a warm mug in hand—and for me, that mug is almost always filled with chai. But as much as I love a spiced brew, I try to steer clear of caffeine in the evenings. That’s where Teabloom’s Ruby Spice Chai comes in. This naturally caffeine-free blend has quickly become a staple in my nighttime routine, offering the same cozy chai flavors I love, without keeping me up past bedtime.
Made with rooibos, cinnamon, vanilla, ginger, and lemongrass, Ruby Spice Chai is bold, smooth, and surprisingly soothing. Whether I’m curled up on the couch or winding down with a book, it’s the kind of tea that helps me shift into rest mode—mind, body, and spirit.
In this post, I’m sharing why this herbal chai stands out, how I like to prepare it, and why it might just become your favorite evening ritual too.
Why Caffeine-Free Chai Supports a Better Night's Rest
If you’re someone who loves the ritual of tea but wants to avoid caffeine after a certain hour, herbal chai is a game-changer. One of the key ingredients in Ruby Spice Chai is rooibos, a naturally caffeine-free herb that’s been used for centuries in South Africa for its calming and digestive benefits.
Unlike traditional teas (black, green, oolong), rooibos contains no caffeine and very low tannins, which means it’s gentler on the stomach and won’t interfere with your sleep. Combined with warming spices like ginger (known to aid digestion), cinnamon (which may help regulate blood sugar), and lemongrass (often used to relieve anxiety and promote relaxation), this blend is more than just tasty—it’s a small act of self-care.
For me, sipping Ruby Spice at the end of the day helps signal to my body that it’s time to wind down. It’s not just about flavor—it’s about creating a moment of stillness and calm.
A Closer look into teabloom ruby spice chai
If you’ve been reading I Try Chai for a while, you’ll know how much I appreciate a good loose leaf chai. You’ll also know how much I love the entire experience, from the packaging to (especially) the end result. Teabloom’s Ruby Spice Chai comes in a gorgeous ruby red canister that makes it perfect for gifting (or treating yourself 😉).
AROMA & PREPARATION
When you open the canister you’re met with that lightly earthy scent which is earthy but pleasant. I also get hints of the lemongrass. As recommended, I prepare 8 oz of cold water in a small pot and bring that up to a boil before putting 2 teaspoons of chai into the water then reduce the heat to a simmer for 6 minutes. This is going to make the flavors a little stronger, the way I love my chai. It’s got the vanilla in there so naturally it will have a hint of sweetness, but I added a little sugar just to balance everything out before straining. While this tea can also be enjoyed over ice mid-day, for my evening routine I recommend it hot with a splash of oat milk to really balance out those flavors.
FLAVOR PROFILE
From the very first sip, Ruby Spice Chai wraps you in warmth—like a soft blanket at the end of a long day. The flavor is gentle and inviting, with a smooth, tea-forward profile that lets the ingredients shine without overwhelming the senses. You’ll notice the earthy richness of rooibos right away, rounded out by a soft, lingering sweetness from cinnamon. It’s not bold or spicy—instead, it leans into a quieter kind of comfort, the kind that makes you slow down and savor each moment. It’s the kind of cup that feels like home.
