Pumpkin Spice Is Nice

It is fall, and honestly one of the best things about this season is pumpkin. spice. everything.

There is something so special about that mix of spices during this season. It shouldn’t surprise me that I love pumpkin spice, since it has very similar flavors in chai.

Both chai spice and pumpkin spice have cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves (ground ingredients, of course).

The one thing that I think makes it different is that in most pumpkin spice mixes it has allspice in it. (Allspice typically has a strong taste, so use it sparingly. It gives a peppery flavor.)

They are so similar, it’s easy to see/taste how well they go together. No wonder pumpkin chai is so popular during these months.

It’s not very hard to combine chai and pumpkin spice together in a drink or while baking. Mix it together and you’ve got the essence of fall! Chai typically gives you a spicier effect led by the ginger and cinnamon, whereas pumpkin spice give a more clove-y/nutmeg driven flavor.

By using both together you get a multi-dimensional taste that will kick up anything you add it to.

(Now here’s where I would usually put some sort of pun about pumpkin spice, but I got nothin. Comment below if you have any)

I was looking up recipes for this because I wanted to make the mix and then keep it on the side to use in chai, baking, really anything I wanted to feel more in-season.

I came across Gimme Some Oven’s recipe for this mix and it’s super simple and keeps for so long! You just whisk the ingredients together and store in a jar.
