Drink Dona Masala Chai Concentrate Review

Hello chai enthusiasts!

It's been a little while since my last review, but I'm back with a highly anticipated one (for me, at least): Drink Dona's bestselling Masala Chai Concentrate.

I recently visited a coffee shop in Florida and ordered a chai latte that immediately caught my attention. While browsing the café's merchandise shelf, I noticed they sold the Drink Dona concentrate used to make the drink. This is a brand I've heard about and had been wanting to try for quite some time, so I was excited not only to connect the delicious chai I was drinking to the brand behind it, but also to bring a bottle home with me.

Before diving into the review, let's talk briefly about chai concentrates. Traditional chai preparation can be a labor of love: steeping tea and spices, adding milk, bringing everything close to a boil, straining, sweetening, and serving. Concentrates offer a convenient alternative. Most simply require mixing with milk over ice (or heating, if you prefer), and many come pre-sweetened for even greater ease. As someone who's often on the go, concentrates have become one of my favorite ways to enjoy chai without sacrificing flavor.

My Thoughts

This is an easy repurchase for me.

The concentrate falls around a 4/5 on my sweetness scale, but it remains well balanced and never crosses into overly sugary territory. While it's slightly sweeter than how I typically brew chai at home, the sweetness complements the spice blend rather than overwhelming it.

Flavor-wise, this is a smooth, layered chai with cardamom and cinnamon taking center stage. The clove is present but subtle, which I personally appreciate since clove can easily dominate a blend when overused. The result is a chai with plenty of depth while remaining approachable and easy to drink.

I'd rate the spice level around a 2.5–3/5. This chai focuses more on flavor than heat. You'll still experience the warmth and complexity of traditional chai spices, but without the intense peppery or ginger-heavy burn that can linger in the back of your throat. Because of that, I think this concentrate is especially well suited for people who enjoy chai flavors but aren't necessarily looking for a highly spiced chai.

I also appreciate Drink Dona's commitment to simple ingredients and real spices. Their tagline, "Equitable sourcing, real ingredients, and less sugar than your average chai," feels genuine and reflective of the product itself. You can tell this isn't your average chai concentrate.

The glass bottle packaging is another plus, though I will admit I flew through the 16 oz bottle in about a week!

For preparation, I followed the recommended instructions: half concentrate and half milk. I used Oatly Barista oat milk, and the combination worked beautifully. In my opinion, a light dusting of cinnamon on top is all this chai really needs.

I also experimented with making a dirty chai using espresso beans I had recently purchased. Unfortunately, the flavor profiles didn't mesh particularly well. That may have been more a reflection of the espresso than the concentrate itself, but it reinforced that I personally enjoyed this chai most as a standalone drink where the spice blend could truly shine.

My only real critique is that the concentrate is slightly sweeter than my personal preference. Occasionally, the final few sips felt a bit rich because of that sweetness. However, that's a relatively minor complaint in what is otherwise an excellent product. I am curious to try Drink Dona's unsweetened concentrate in the future (let me know if that's a review you'd like to see!)

Final Verdict

Overall, this is a crowd-pleasing, well-rounded chai concentrate that I'd happily recommend.

Whether you're a longtime chai drinker looking for a quick and convenient option, or someone hoping to upgrade from a Starbucks chai to something a bit more sophisticated, this is an excellent place to start. It delivers genuine chai flavor, quality ingredients, and everyday convenience in one bottle.
