Lavender Chai Latte With Cold Foam Recipe
Hello chai enthusiasts! I’m back with another recipe, an easy lavender chai latte with cold foam on top (so delicious and so simple I’ve made it back to back days).
When I think of the first couple months of the year, I think of coziness with a hint of springtime in the distance. Usually January to February is more calm than the rest of the year, as it’s just getting started. There’s a sense of peacefulness, the calm before the storm. That’s why I created this drink that perfectly encapsulates that feeling.
Also, I really like lavender and had some in my pantry (but that doesn’t sound as poetic).
I’ve heard of lavender lattes before. It’s a very popular drink in many cafes, specifically I noticed around California its a staple drink on every menu. I thought to myself, if there’s a lavender latte why can’t there be a lavender chai? I went looking online and only came across very few recipes. That’s when I realized the world needs a lavender chai recipe easy enough anyone can make it, and it has to be from someone who knows real chai.
So here I present to you the best Lavender Chai Latte, complete with cold foam on top to make you feel like a barista in your home cafe.
Scroll down for the recipe!
To make the best lavender chai latte you first need to make lavender syrup. This is really easy and also acts as your sweetener.
Take white sugar, water, and culinary grade lavender and bring it to a boil in a small pot. Once boiling, bring it down to simmer for one minute. Then remove from the heat and let that sit for half an hour (this really brought out the lavender scent). Strain into a container and set on the side.
* This recipe makes extra lavender syrup! You can store this in the fridge and use in other drinks as well. Try a little in your matcha, coffee, or lemonade!
Once your syrup is done grab your favorite unsweetened chai mix ( here I used Firepot Masala Chai Loose Leaf ). It’s important that you use a chai that doesn’t have any sweetener or sugar in it, because we’re going to use the syrup we made in place of that.
Brew your chai as instructed with your milk of choice. As that’s going pour a bit of milk straight out of the carton into a small cup. Grab your handheld frother and froth it up until it’s over 2x it’s size.
*If you like your chai to be sweeter, add a little lavender syrup to the cold foam before frothing
As pictured, I’m using my favorite handheld frother. It was actually gifted to me from a family member but you can buy this here on amazon for less than $10! I absolutely love it, it’s battery operated and super lightweight. It’s lasted me for years and is very simple to operate. You can use this for matcha (highly recommend) as well as coffee and other drinks. With this, you can make cold foam in seconds and add it to any homemade drink (starbucks who??). I can’t recommend this more for anyone who loves making their own coffee, matcha, or chai this is a must have. Oh, and it’s Prime!!
Once your chai is done, strain into your mug. Add 3 teaspoons of lavender syrup to your chai and give it a good stir.
Take your cup of cold foam and pour it over your chai.
Optionally, you can add a little lavender on top (if you’re doing it for the ‘gram). I did this and aesthetically, it was really pretty. Taste-wise I do not recommend doing this because as you drink it you get the straight up lavender and it’s quite bitter.
