Starbucks Oat Milk Chai + Copycat Recipe!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard about Starbucks rolling out their latest alternative milk option across the U.S. recently.

Honestly, I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner.

If you’ve been a reader of I Try Chai for a while then you know I am a big fan of oat milk. My personal favorite brand happens to be Oatly, which is the brand that Starbucks is using in all their stores.

While I know and taste the difference between a Starbucks chai and an authentic-style chai (which you can read about here), I still often order chai from Starbucks. I love it for what it is.

Over time I’ve realized that not all the alternative milks taste the best with Starbucks chai. I find that their coconut milk is too tangy for my liking in my chai, and the almond milk clashes a bit. Of course, the day they started serving Oatly oat milk, I had to go and try it for myself!

Note: Starbucks offers Oatly Barista Edition. The difference between this and the original Oatly oat milk is the barista edition has a higher fat content, making it more creamy.

I am happy to tell you all that the oat milk is totally worth trying in your chai, whether you are vegan, dairy free, or just another person who orders a chai latte from Starbucks.

If you haven’t had oat milk before, it adds a nice light flavor to your drink. Very subtle, and delicious!

Starbucks currently charges a small fee for all milk substitutes in their drinks, but you can use 25 stars (if you’re part of their rewards program) to cover it!

Here’s my favorite way to order an oat milk chai latte from Starbucks:

  • Iced Chai Latte

  • Oat milk

  • sprinkle cinnamon

This is the only way I order my chai from Starbucks now!!

If you want to make a copycat version of this Starbucks Oat Milk Chai Latte, here’s all you need to DIY it at home!

* ** The Tazo concentrate is the same chai Starbucks uses!

Using these same 2 ingredients, you can exactly replicate Starbucks from home. Simply pour equal parts concentrate and oat milk over ice, sprinkle with cinnamon and enjoy!
