The BEST Chai French Toast Recipe

French toast with maple syrup drizzle

I was craving some French toast the other day, and thought to myself “What if I throw in some of my chai concentrate in the batter?”

I had made some chai concentrate ahead of a long work week a few days before, so it’s been in my fridge and ready to use…

I recently starting hostessing which is a very different schedule than I’m used to, so I definitely needed some caffeinated chai on hand.

And the rest is history.

So for today’s article I’m going to give you my chai french toast recipe.

To start off, I made some of my chai concentrate. This can be done by grinding your own whole spices or using pre-ground spices (either works). You can find the concentrate recipe here.

So once the concentrate has been chilling in the fridge for at least an hour (or is at room temperature), we can move to the next step which is getting 2 eggs out and adding it to a bowl. You’re going to whisk it with a fork until it gets foamy.

Next, you’re going to add your milk of choice and concentrate to the eggs, mixing well.

  • Normally, when making french toast this is where you would add in honey, but because the chai concentrate is already sweetened you don’t need to do that!

After that, take each slice of toast (one at a time) and soak each side in the mixture.

Place the butter in a pan over medium heat, allowing it to melt and coat the pan. Place 2 slices of soaked bread in and cook until golden brown, then flip. Do the same for the remaining slices of bread (adding more butter to re-coat the pan after each slice is done).

Once done and golden on both sides, cut the slices diagonally and finish with a sprinkle of cinnamon, pumpkin spice, or chai spice (recipe to come in the next post! stay tuned) and drizzle with pure maple syrup. (My favorite that I used here is Trader Joe’s Organic Vermont Maple Syrup. You can buy it on Amazon for 25.99 for 12.7 fl oz.)

Tbh, the chai spice takes this to another level. and it’s so easy to make (it’s ridiculous!!!!) . Be sure to check out the recipe here.
